Striving to become a B Corp business

Our Journey.

Our dream

We have been looking to become a B Corp certified business for a while now, and this year we intend to make it happen. We’ve teamed up with local sustainability adviser and B Leader Laura Adams and BLab to begin our journey of becoming a B Corp Business in 2024.

What it is

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

As it stands, we currently work with many incredible B Corp businesses. Our coffee is sourced and made by NewGround, we have made a full and exclusive product move to Davines, our biodegradable towels are supplied by Easy Dry, and we have partnered with The Green Salon Collective - the world's only B Corp recycling company. Not only that, we like to go one step further and ensure we use as many B Corp brands as possible within our supply chain, even to the extreme of Who Gives a Crap, not your average toilet paper, saving the world, one wipe at a time.

Why

We have always strived towards sustainability and a positive environmental impact, but instead of working with businesses who have embodied this, we want to become one of those businesses. Starting our B Corp journey will turn our steps into leaps when it comes to improving the way we work, and it will make our projects tangible and our initiatives known.

It’s not about the certification stamp, it’s about what we’re doing to get it.

Certifying as a B Corp means:

  1. Improving impact through participation in working groups, sharing best practice and ongoing use of the BIA and SDG Action Manager

  2. Collaborating with other B Corps, joining B Locals around the UK and working together to find solutions to specific challenges

  3. Networking and attending exclusive community events

  4. Alignment with B Lab and the B Corp Community on global issues

  5. Engaging employees in the company’s purpose and mission and attracting and retaining talent

  6. Articulating the company’s mission externally – to investors, clients, customers and suppliers

How

Becoming a B Corp means change.

We recently made a massive decision to switch our colour product supply over to Davines. Amongst other notable feats, Davines’ products are renowned for their 0 carbon emissions and force for good on the world and people within it.

We currently use Easy Dry towels for our services, disposable towels that are recyclable and biodegradable while offering the highest possible levels of hygiene.

We have teamed up with the Green Salon Collective, whose key goal is to recycle and reuse salon waste, focusing on specialist items like hair and metal.

Over and above working through our certification process, we are breathing life into missions we’ve been dreaming of for a while. Mission number one: our Re-Wilding Project. An initiative using a hands-on approach to getting young trees planted in the local community. This year, we intend on making it happen.

Watch this space for all our updates, as well as new missions we’ll be initiating on our B Corp jounrey.
