Elevating Our Impact through Purposeful Partnerships
“To exceed the expectations of our industry and create an environment that considers the people within it and the world around it, reducing our carbon emissions, recycling and upcycling, and supporting local businesses.” – the Nashwhite mission statement.
At the heart of our business philosophy lies a dedication to sustainability, evident in every facet of our operations. From the design of our workplace to the products we use and the brands we partner with, our mission is to protect the planet while crafting exceptional hair experiences.
Central to our sustainability journey is the careful curation of partnerships with brands that share our commitment to making a difference.
For us, it was important that the businesses we worked with shared the same values, as you’re only as good as the company you keep. Have like-minded suppliers not only enhanced our ethos, but also the trust our customers had in us. Beyond this, it minimised reputational risks and ensured ethical conduct throughout the supply chain.
Here’s just some of the epic suppliers we’ve been working with over the years:
1. Davines: Where Beauty Meets Sustainability
At the core of our hair services is Davines, a trailblazer in sustainable beauty. Their Essential Haircare range, sourced from Italian Slow Food Presidia farms, not only enhances hair but also contributes to the biodiversity of our planet. Davines prioritises natural, biodegradable ingredients and employs recycled materials for packaging, aligning seamlessly with our commitment to ethical practices and cruelty-free approaches.
2. NewGround: Coffee with Purpose
Our coffee shop is powered by some truly incredible brands, and our coffee provider is no exception. NewGround goes beyond offering exceptional coffee; it's a brand that empowers communities. With every sip, our clients actively participate in social impact, contributing to sustainable coffee production and supporting vulnerable individuals.
3. Who Gives a Crap : Saving the World, One Wipe at a Time
It’s quite obvious that you can’t have a team of 20+ in a space that can be occupied by 60+ without a bathroom—and numerous toilets. By choosing environmentally friendly paper products, we get to contribute to global sanitation efforts. Half of the WGAC profits generated go toward building toilets and improving sanitation in underserved communities, turning a daily necessity into a force for positive change.
4. Decent Packaging: A Greener Approach to Disposables
Our use of Decent Packaging underscores our commitment to redefining the narrative around disposables. By transforming waste products into plant-based disposables (for takeaway only!), we align ourselves with a circular approach to natural life. This conscious choice not only reduces our dependence on fossil fuels but also exemplifies our dedication to ethical sourcing and responsible business practices.
5. Revolutionising the Salon Experience with itzi
We first tried out biodegradable salon towels, but after some trial and error (and many calculations, article soon to come) we came to the conclusion that reusable microfibre towels are the best, future-focused option for our services. With these, we minimise our environmental impact and showcase how small changes in our business practices can lead to a more sustainable future. Not only is itzi is totally stain resistant to bleach, tints and peroxide, but it comprehensively outlasts conventional terry cotton towels and frees up at least 50% of storage space.
6. ChariTea and LemonAid: Sweetened by Nature
ChariTea pays higher prices for the ingredients, thereby supporting fair, dignified farming. Beyond Fairtrade, every bottle sold gives an additional 5 cents to the LemonAid and ChariTea Foundation. With this, they’ve already collected more than 6 million euros for social projects in the growing regions.
7. British Gas: Green Energy Tariff
This tariff means that 100% of our electricity use will be matched by buying electricity from renewable sources. This is done through Guarantees of Origin certificates or Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates, or both. This tariff also includes a partnership with ClimateCare, ensuring that 90% of the gas we use on this tariff is carbon offset through carbon reduction projects in developing countries.
P.S. We are looking into solar panels to become totally renewable!
8. Grundon Recycling: Transforming Recycling Practices
Above regular recycling, we are able to responsibly dispose of hair, colour tubes, and other materials. Grundon utilises a process called "Energy from Waste" where they burn non-recyclable waste at their "Lakeside Energy from Waste" facility to generate electricity, essentially turning waste into a source of power by incinerating it and using the heat to produce steam which then drives a turbine to create electricity; this process allows them to divert waste from landfills and contribute to renewable energy sources.
Each of our supplier relationships fortifies a journey where sustainability is not just a checkbox, but an ethos that drives every decision we make. From our workspace design to product choices, we are on a relentless pursuit of a greener and cleaner future. This admission is not just a recognition of our efforts; it's a testament to our belief that beauty can coexist harmoniously with a commitment to the planet.
